THE ANGEL BALL ROCKS NEW YORK RAISING 2 MILLION!
THE G & P FOUNDATION FOR CANCER RESEARCH SALUTED THE WORLD OF ENTERTAINMENT AND MEDIA HONORING CLIVE DAVIS, BONNIE FULLER, SOL KERZNER AND MARTIN RICHARDS New York, NY October 28, 2003 — Last night, The G & P Foundation for Cancer Research honored four outstanding individuals at Denise Rich's star-studded ANGEL BALL. Sol Kerzner, Chairman & CEO Kerzner International, received the Angel Gabrielle Award for his distinguished corporate & philanthropic leadership; Clive Davis, Chairman RCA Music Group, received The Angel of Light Award. The Angel of Hope Award was given to American Media Editorial Director, Bonnie Fuller; Tony-and Oscar-winning producer, Martin Richards was honored with The Angel of Inspiration Award. Harvey Weinstein, David Pecker, Jerry Inzerillo and Charles Goldstuck served as Gala Chairs. Helen Gurly Brown, Gabriel Byrne, Joan Collins, Star Jones, Rob Marshall, Donald Trump, Kristine W, Marissa Jaret Winokur and Barbara Walters hosted the spectacular evening. Marc Anthony opened the show and Shirley Bassey brought the house to a standing ovation with her performance of Goldfinger. The combination of the beautiful Heather Headley and electricity of Wyclef Jean was thrilling. Jessica Simpson serenaded the crowd with "I Have Loved You," a song written by Denise Rich. The Dynamites from Hairspray performed after the auction and Patti LaBelle, Sarah Dash and Kelly Rowland closed this magical evening with a roof-raising rendition of Lady Marmalade. Celebrities & personalities in attendance included Carol Alt, Lorraine Bracco, Natalie Cole, Gloria Gaynor, Deborah Gibson, Famke Janssen, Michael Patrick King, Melanie Knauss, Gladys Knight, Stephanie Mills, Ines Rivero, Ivana Trump, Dionne Warwick, Montel Williams and Stevie Wonder. "I am so thrilled that my daughter's memory lives on. Last night's gala helped to raise much needed funds for cancer research," said Co-Founder Denise Rich. "New York has never seen a more amazing show and I am so grateful to all the artists who came out to support the foundation." The G & P Foundation was established in 1996 by songwriter Denise Rich and her son-in-law Philip Aouad, in memory of Denise's daughter Gabrielle Rich Aouad, who died at age 27 from AML Leukemia. The G & P Foundation's primary goal is to save lives by funding basic and clinical medical research in both conventional and integrative disciplines, which focus on prevention, treatments and quality of life issues of leukemia, lymphoma and related cancers.
